means less beautiful. It is recognizable by

greenish tinge, caused by the iron used in its

manufacture. Glass colors vary by what is used in

CLEAR CRYSTAL.

Completely clear glass, sometimes having a blue

shade. It is the next step up and if beveled has a

diamond like glitter along the edge. Recommended

as the next step up from jade, and it is a bit

OPTICAL GLASS.

This type is

the most

expensive

, since it takes a

great deal of treating to

make it

without any

imperfections, allowing a thicker piece to be made

without any distortion. The thicker the glass the

more variations can be seen, Optical crystal

refracts light and makes beautiful colors if exposed

to direct light. It is the same glass used for

microscopes

LEAD CRYSTAL.

This is

used more often in

tableware,and it is also

used in the finest and most expensive trophy cups

award bowls, etc. Its clarity is created by the use of

lead in its manufacture. 24% lead is the highest that

can be

sold in the USA, and it would take months and

months of wine being in a lead crystal glass before

any appreciable amount would have to be leached

out before becoming a hazard
